Extra light came through the window. The voices of men talking. Sound of machinery. Who is doing construction at 1:00 am on a side street in Manhattan? Looking out the window I saw a huge, modern garbage truck. A pile of at least one hundred large black plastic garbage bags. Stuffed. One man in a sweatshirt mehodcally lifted and threw a bag to the middle of the street. The second man took each bag and threw it into the truck where it was periodically devoured by the compacting machine. That's one spot in one city in one tiny part of our country. What a lot of work to keep us healthy. I'm grateful for these strong men. Too overwhelming to think of the environmental impact.
