What do you do to relax? When you're over cooked, strung out, and feel like a piece of soggy pasta? Do you watch an entertaining Netflix show? Do you stare out the window and eat a cookie? Go for a run? Take a nap? Dig in the dirt and weed? Cook? What is the one thing that always helps?
My usual solution for relaxing is to escape into a book. I just curl up on the couch and read. It's not particularly productive. It is relaxing. It recharges me or takes my mind away from the problem. Often, mental time away can help bring a new perspective.
Once upon a time, I used to go out and run. Six miles. As easy as brushing my teeth in the morning. I loved the feeling of my mind emptying and my blood zipping through my limbs. While the problems didn't disappear, I felt a little better. Like resetting a fuse.
My daughter needlepoints. She loves to select the canvas and the thread colors at the needlepoint store. There's a special place in New York that handles the back of the canvas. Will the fabric be velvet? cotton? How about the fringe? I have been the recipient of the most beautiful pillows and tree ornaments. My sons have belts. Her children have exquisite Christmas stockings, tooth fairy pillows, and more ornaments.
I need to find another hobby that I'm obsessed with in a positive way. I'm still pondering.
If you would it asked me this question 20-14 years ago my answer would it be "dancing and baking" ... now days it is "Netflix" thanks to the Pandemic ... And of course cleaning my house , and about 1 month ago reading a book for fun! It is amazing how life changes right?
About my love to dance, I still love to dance, I don't go out to dance anymore, but in a family party I'm there, right in the middle!
Thanks for your post, it really made me think about myself!
The needlepoint is beautiful. I love the comparison to overcooked pasta. Great mind picture. That's exactly how I feel at the end of a Friday. My go to hobby for stress relief is knitting. There have been studies done that show knitting can lower your blood pressure.
