I love libraries and independent bookstores. Why do books often seem more appealing from a bookstore? Wrapped in special paper and given as a gift, a book is elevated to a whole new level of mystery and value. The same book chosen at a library is different. Read 50 pages and you dislike it? Return it. Early rejection. No harm done Received as a gift? Plow on through the first 100 pages and hope it gets better. Be prepared to talk about it. Which reminds me about The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict - a good book if you enjoy libraries.
